People’s image in every Jakarta Fair event is how easy it is to look for the old, unique and specific Betawian cuisine, such as ‘Kerak Telor’. It is definitely agreeable. In Jakarta Fair event, every year there are rows ‘Kerak Telor’ stalls mushrooming on the street sides directed to Jakarta Fair venue. Not to mention the ones who have their stalls in the venue. In order to reserve such specific cuisine, the organizer of Jakarta Fair has held a program to make ‘Kerak Telor’ that will be recorded in Indonesian Record Museum on July, 2006.

President Director of PT. Jakarta International Expo, as the organizer of Jakarta Fair, Siti Hartati Murdaya, said that the desire in making a record in Indonesia is to add the merriment in celebrating Jakarta’s birthday and an actualization of awareness about this Betawian cuisine.
“With its unique composition, it is hoped that this ‘Kerak Telor’ would carry rhe concept of 479th Jakarta’s birthday,” stated Siti Hartati Murdaya.

the ingredients to make ‘Kerak Telor’ are consist of 479 eggs, 7 kg of sticky rice and 9 different spices, which is read from left to bottom will make a formation of 479, as follow:

479 eggs
7 kg of sticky rice
9 types of spices

Hartati added that ‘Kerak Telor’ will be worked by 4 men, which is lead by the leader of the Association of Kerak Telor Seller in Jakarta, H. Amarullah, and will be held in Gambir Expo area of Jakarta Fair, Kemayoran. The duration to cook this food is about 47 minutes.
“The executors in making this giant ‘Kerak Telor’ are from the Association of Kerak Telor Seller, in collaboration with PT. JIExpo and PT. MICE INDO. When finished cooking, that ‘Kerak Telor’ will be given to 500 visitors of Jakarta Fair,” added Siti Hartati. She also persuaded people to come to the venue of Jakarta Fair 2006 to get a bite of this humongous ‘Kerak Telor’.

Meanwhile, the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo, or famously known by his nickname, Bang Foke, has a great response in having the activity of making this gargantuan ‘Kerak Telor’.
“To make this large ‘Kerak Telor’ is also adding the spirit towards the value of special characteristic of Jakarta’s traditional cuisine,” said Bang Foke.
