Jakarta Fair is not only attracting the interest
from local entrepreneurs, but also overseas businesspersons to
participate in this exhibition. The products are ranging from
glassware, ornaments, home appliances, to automotives.
They are gathering with local entrepreneurs in Jakarta Fair arena and offering their products.
Such foreign producers in the Jakarta Fair arena are making other
alternative products for visitors to choose. Furthermore, their
presentations are also arousing the local producers to compete in
somewhat elegant with wide ranges of innovative and various products.
“The participation of such foreign producers in Jakarta Fair arena will
give a positive meaning for local ones. Domestic businessperson could
also learn from their market strategy in dealing with Indonesian
costumers in Jakarta Fair arena. Let alone the Indonesian people are
very choosy and having strong characterization in relation with
products,” said the Trading Minister, Marie Elka Pengestu.
According to Marie, the abroad producers’ interest in
Jakarta Fair, which mingling with 1,200 participants in the venue, are
not only offering their products. They are participating in this
biggest event because the image of Jakarta Fair as a products and
trading exhibition is so strong, and held at the same time with
Jakarta’s Birthday.
“It is hoped that Jakarta Fair could open trading opportunity because
there are millions of visitors who have the potential in becoming
buyers,” stated Marie.
Similar opinion has been said also by the President Director of PT.Jakarta International Expo 2006, Siti Hartati Murdaya,
who said that Indonesian products could be put in a level with products
from abroad, such as the products offered by manufacturers from China,
Malaysia, Iran and Singapore. Those mentioned countries have been
displaying their handicrafts products beside the manufactured ones.
Thus, the local entrepreneurs is hoped to show off their high quality
products in Jakarta Fair arena in order to fish out market opportunity,
not only from domestic but also from overseas.
“Experiences recorded that in every trading and products exhibition
such as Jakarta Fair, there are many local entrepreneurs who had gotten
themselves buyers from foreign countries,” stated Siti.
Jakarta Fair event is hoped to provide market information vehicle and
also an arena for positive trading competition between local and
international producers. Yet, it is not possible to have foreign
goods—with exact designs and types—be accepted more in the market,
although their quality are not far different with Indonesian products.
Or, it could be vice-versa: the local products are more accepted in it
local market. And it is also possible that the foreign participants are
more than this year’s event, with many more products offerings, similar
with the local ones.
“A healthy competition will encourage creativity towards the product itself to be more accepted in the market,” said Siti.
